June 9th Interactive Whiteboard Case Studies
This Interactive Whiteboard Case Studies Seminar will be where MirandaNet practitioners feature our new work with Mexico, China and South Africa. This seminar will be from 4:00 - 6:00pm at the MirandaNet Academy, Bath Spa University College, Bath starting with a buffet.
June 15th Creative learning under cover
Behaviour Management and Special Needs activities supported by ICT
Institute of Education, London, Rm 677, 4:30 to 7:00pm
4:30 – a drop in session – a chance to try out an Interactive whiteboard
5:00 – 6:30pm Seminar: Two supply teachers and two permanent teachers who are all Teacher Researchers will present practical ideas from case studies for ensuring that learners are fully stretched in the classroom.
6:30 A sandwich supper when World Ecitizens teachers will show the free virtual learning environment and offer the opportunity to start ICT projects for supply teachers from abroad who want to set up projects between their home country and schools in the UK.
Free copies of the MirandaNet research, 'Who are the Supply Teachers' will be available for participants.
June 22nd Digital Technology, Communities and Education: World Yearbook authors reflect
Institute of Education, London, Rm 412
A debate for all educators who are interested the impact of the digital age on learning.
Three professors who have had great influence on the culture of the MirandaNet community since 1992 will be leading a debate about the learning issues that face schools in this digital world.
5:00 to 6:00pm - Professor Gunther Kress, Institute of Education, University of London, will be talking about multimodal signs of learning in the context of digital technologies : Professor Bridget Somekh and Di Mavers, Manchester University, will describe their research into children’s learning within and beyond the classroom with particular reference to evidence collected through the study of concept maps. Professor Niki Davis, Iowa State University and Christina Preston, MirandaNet, will be drawing examples from transnational learning communities that now exist online and face to face.
6:00 to 7:00pm The discussion will be open to participants to ask questions of the speakers and share their views.
Participants in the debate will be welcome at Poons, Southampton Row after the event.
September 1st/2nd Collaborating on the Boundaries of the Possible
ICT CPD workshop and conference in Bath
A chance to share ideas with colleagues from all sections of the global education community in beautiful Georgian surroundings in Bath.
Doug Brown, Head of ICT in Schools, DFES, is presenting The Impossible Now! Marilyn Leask and Tim Tarrant, TTA soon to be TDA, will be talking about new roles for teachers in the digital age. Niel McClean from Becta is chairing panels which include Dominic Savage, British Education Suppliers Association (BESA) and representatives from Microsoft, Promethean, Inspiration, Crocodile Clips, Sherston and Oracle. Funding experts including the British Council will be helping all the participants to fund World Ecitizen projects. ‘Hoodies and Heroes’ – respecting our youth- is one comic strip project proposed by Castleview School in Sunderland. What’s your idea?
Chris White, BSUC, will be suggesting ways to inject creativity into the projects and Rupert Wegerif, Southampton, will be offering suggestions about incorporating thinking skills strategies.
The Country Club includes a leisure centre. The Gala dinner on 1st September promises to be a gastronomic treat. Salsa dancing and a walk back in history will also be arranged if there is enough demand.
MirandaNet friends are planning to come from the Czech Republic, South Africa, Bermuda and Japan. Lynne Coombs can send letters of invitation for those who need them.

The New MirandaNet Manager
It is with great pleasure we announce that Lynne Coombs agreed to be our new MirandaNet Manager in April.
She is organising and attending the workshop in Bath, Collaborating on the Boundaries of the Possible, so do come and meet her then.
