Christina Preston and Bozena Mannova have won the 1998 European Women of Achievement Award for their work in promoting information and communications technology (ICT) training for educators throughout Europe.
The Award was presented to women who have made outstanding contributions to European business, arts and humanities. This year's awards ceremony were held on Friday 10 July at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane.
Christina Preston is the founder and director of MirandaNet, a non-profit international industry-education partnership in ICT. MirandaNet concentrates on the professional development of teacher educators through Oracle-sponsored training programs. MirandaNet strives to create the best technological solutions for enriching lifelong teaching and learning.
Bozena Mannova is an internationally renowned systems analyst who teaches ICT at the Czech Technical Institute and various Czech Republic secondary schools in Prague. Together these women have formed a unique alliance focused on improving the use of computers in education throughout Europe.
The European Union of Women is a pan-European organisation which believes women should be encouraged to play a full and active part in all aspects of political, private, and professional life. The organisation's aim is to increase the influence of woman on European affairs for the benefit of all.
