Updated Outline Proposal by Liu Yan

Liuyan Liuyan

Year of posting: 2005

Abstract:

Currently whilst I am studying at Southampton University I will be in contact with SuYi and our dean. Suyi will be communicating the progress of the project on a regular basis to both the UK adviser and myself,so that I too can be involved at the early stages and use the information to feed into my research and suggest possible ideas for him to try out based on my observations and studies in the UK.I ’ll give a brief report about the ICT application situation in China’s education field as well as that of the specific institutions involved in the project in China). On my return to China I shall develop the project by, firstly, having the IWB-aided writing lesson by myself and a group of teachers teaching writing. Secondly, I shall introduce the innovation to other college teachers by providing training and directing. I’ll try to expand the application of the IWB in our college as well as in other schools if possible. My prospective writing lesson, as part of Stage 2 of the project, will focus mainly on the following aspects: 1) Using the Miranda Net World E-citizens concept to create and develop some cultural communication projects: to see whether it can improve students writing ability and critical thinking ability and how it can transform learning context. Part of this will be linked to the projects in the other schools, examining and developing the themes that they wish to use and creating materials for the younger school pupils.( in English). 2) My other line of interest is with on-line interaction, the use of Virtual Learning Environment. I hope we can work out fairly good papers to present in the conference Tina mentioned. It is expected that during the SA visit to Cape Town there will be time for meetings and discussion with our UK contact Adviser, Mr David Jordan, which will allow for the development and refinement of our future lesson plans: with additional work being done over the Summer prior to his visit near the start of the new term in September. As part of the pre-planning process I shall be meeting with Mr David Jordan during the Easter holiday to look at progress so far and to discuss my ideas in more detail ?by the end of July/August it is hoped that there will be a more detailed overview of the work to carried out in the second phase of the project. By the end of June I hope to have examined the results of the first stage and be able to make some recommendations for the second stage.
