The MirandaNet Professional Development Model

The MirandaNet vision was developed as a way for educators to network with their contemporaries on a variety of ICT issues. Most educators have limited opportunities or available resources to develop and explore innovative uses of digital media in the classroom, or to disseminate their findings to peers.

The MirandaNet Professional Development Model selects candidates for company-funded scholarships on the basis of their commitment to using ICT as a tool for the management of change in learning. Potential members should have the consent of their institution to join the MirandaNet community and are required to provide evidence that the training received is reinvested in their institutions' current ICT Development Plan.

Accreditation
MirandaNet Fellows can obtain accreditation for their work through the MirandaNet Academy, a joint venture between MirandaNet and the School of Education's Department for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) at Bath Spa University (BSU). The MirandaNet Academy offers education professionals a postgraduate Professional Master's Programme that accredits a diverse range of professional learning projects and staff development activities.

Impacting on professional practice
MirandaNet has been able to put its Professional Development Model into practice in a number of projects, with funding partners including the DfES, the GTC and a number of EAZs. Previous projects included the DfEE funded WEBRITTe project, the E-Learning Project, which linked into the DfES Project 'Transforming the Way We Learn', and the Web Wise Wapping Project. MirandaNet also support the Education Resources Awards and were involved with the DfES/GTC Action Research Grants.

The MirandaNet vision for CPD was presented in a conference speech (Building a continuing professional development (CPD) plan over three years for a school cluster or a school) that Christina Preston made at an international conference associated with BETT03.
