The latest research reports from the MirandaNet Fellowship

Four practice-based research working groups will be publishing their results in 2007

The Thinkers who have been using Oracle’s think.com learning platform since 2000 have already published several engaging case studies in the MirandaNet e-journals. A key factor for the Fellows has been the security of pages for students who want to own web space. This year the group will be reporting on their exchange projects between schools in England, Friesland and the Czech Republic. Bursaries for teachers have also been funded by 2Simple.

The Inspirationalists will be reporting on research into the use of multimodal mapping software in classrooms. Funded by Inspiration, some of the areas under investigation are: multimodal mapping to support transformational learning and language development, to stimulate thinking skills and a combination of mapping software and mobile technology to engage the reluctant learner.

The Active Learning Ambassadors are Chinese, Mexican, South African and English teachers who are sharing good practice on introducing digital tools into the classroom. Supplied by Promethean, these tools include interactive whiteboards, voting systems and digital cameras. The aims of this international teachers’ community has been to raise achievement and to explore transformational models of teaching and learning.

The Transformers, with members from Sweden, Denmark, UK, US, Holland, are developing a pedagogical model for communities of practice. Funded by the EU, the group is extending collaborative learning to embrace a concept of braided learning. In this model teachers share their evidence of classroom transformation to create new strategies for transformation - a process which learning platforms and wikis have now made more feasible.

Two new working groups will be starting in 2007:

The MirandaNet Fellowship has more than 500 members in 43 countries: all are committed to using digital tools as a key means of transforming teaching and learning practices (www.mirandanet.ac.uk). Scholars become Fellows by publishing their expertise in articles for the teachers’ e-journals. Many entries are practice-based research case studies that focus on the use of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) in classrooms. Teachers, senior managers and teacher educators decide what they would like to change in their practice. In negotiation with MirandaNet Fellow mentors they decide on the strategies they will use to do this and the research methodologies they will use to track the results. Pupils are frequently involved in this reflective study as well and contribute evidence to publications. You can read these by visiting www.mirandanet.ac.uk/ejournal/casestudies.htm
