do and we don't."
Pupil age 10, UK
Aim: To investigate festivals in other countries.
Pupil age: 9-11 years / whole class activity
Curriculum: Religious Education, Cultural Exchange, Geography, History
Activity: Pupils discuss festivals in other countries celebrating 'Saints Days'. For example, St Patrick's Day in Ireland, San Jose Day in Spain, St George's Day in England.
Pupils use the Internet to research their chosen countries Saint's day.
Pupils email their chosen country and partnership school, to tell them about their own Saint's day and ask the other pupils how they celebrate their Saints days. The pupils exchange information about the different festival celebrations. Youth clubs (Scouts, Cubs, Brownies and Guides) may celebrate Saint's Days, which pupils may belong to and can discuss via the email exchange.
Plenary: Pupils compare traditions in other countries. This promotes interest and tolerance for the traditions and customs of other cultures.
