To investigate playground games in other countries
Aim | Pupil Age | Curriculum | Activity | Plenary
"We can all learn about other countries and the way different people
live."
Pupil age 10, UK
Aim: To investigate playground games in other countries.
Pupil age: 9-11 years / whole class activity
Curriculum: ultural Exchange, Geography,
Physical Education, Communication, ICT.
Activity: The pupils work in pairs. Each pair chooses a favourite game and the pupils' write the instructions for that game on the computer. They get together with another pair and each group tries to follow the instructions. They then refine their instructions until they are clear, using the cut, copy, paste and move functions. They use a digital camera to take a photograph of pupils playing the game. The pupils upload the photographs onto their games instruction document. The document is then sent as an attachment to other schools together with a request for similar instructions about favourite games.
Plenary: The games sent to the partnership schools are tried out during the Physical Education time and encouraged during playtime.
Pupils compare games in other countries. They try the games. The pupils may incorporate the games, possibly with some adaptations, into their bank of games, for their own enjoyment. This promotes interest and tolerance for the traditions and customs of other people. When on holiday, the pupils might see children playing the games and this opens up the possibility of interaction between cultures.
